With this project I wanted to create a simple form with a deceptively complex surface. The grid is entirely drawn by hand, laser cut from two types of wood veneer, and finally inlayed by hand over plywood. No two squares are alike. While I do find a lot of traditional inlay beautiful, it is often one dimensional in its approach—rendered in a balanced and harmonious geometric pattern. However, this table presents a classic Cartesian grid drawn with an unsteady, human hand.
